The Jack Kelly Award is given annually to the top boys runner in the state

So here's how it is if we don't act together then we nothin'. If we don't stick together we nothin'. And if we can't even trust each other, then we nothin'. So whats it gonna be?

And the winner is…

 

Dan Curts Ellsworth

.04 seconds. That was the difference in deciding the state champion, and it was also the difference in deciding the runner of the year. Curts narrowly edged Eastman at the Manchester Invitational running a blazing time of 15:42, then out leaned Eastman at the line at the state meet running a time of 15:47.52. Curts was on fire all year, as he finished his season undefeated in Maine. His only blemish came last week at the New England Championships where he placed 17^th which was still good enough to earn All New England honors for the second straight year. Curts is the heavy favorite to repeat and next fall. After that, who knows? He could very well make a trip to Footlocker Nationals next fall if he decides to race.

Curts edged Silas Eastman in one of the most epic battles we have seen in Maine history. His time of 15:47.52 is now officially the tenth fastest ever on the Belfast course. Curts has to be considered one of the favorites to win the New England Championship’s on Nov. 10^th.

Eastman suffered a rare loss in the last state meet of his brilliant career. Despite the loss, Eastman should be considered one of the favorites to win the New England Championships. He may even have an edge on Curts with the race being at Twinbrooks.

Pierce saved the best for last as he pulled away from Holt-Andrews during the last mile running a life time best of 15:57.41. Look for Pierce to contend for a top ten finish at New England’s.

Holt-Andrews placed second in Class C running a fast time of 16:20.43. Look for him to bounce back and contend for a top ten finish at New England’s.

Nadeau showed on Saturday that last week was just a fluke as he brought home the Class A state championship running a time of 16:36.40. Look for Nadeau to contend for a top 25 finish at New England’s.

Josef’s season has been eerily similar to the one Matt McClintock had last year. Holt-Andrews dominated the MVC Championships running a spectacular time of 16:21 on one of the toughest courses in the state. To put his time in perspective, McClintock ran 16:23 at the same meet and course last year.

Pierce ran another fantastic race as he continued to chip away at Silas Eastman during the final mile at the WMC Championships. Unfortunately for Pierce, Eastman’s lead was too much. Look for Piercce to challenge Holt-Andrews for the Class C WMR title on Saturday.

Trapani used a devastating kick to run by Christian Heath of Gardiner to win the KVAC Championships running a time of 17:09.8. Trapani should contend for the runner up spot at the Class B EMR race on Saturday.
