Steve Dewitt Ellsworth
Prs: 1600: 4:16 800: 1:56 3200:9:30?
Dewitt had a great high school career as he won the 2000 class B xc state meet as a junior posting a time of 16:01.20 on the legendary Augusta course. The following year he was the runner up at the state meet this time behind Greely legend Ben True running a time of 16:21.36 which was good for the 3rd fastest time of all classes that day. A few weeks later at the New England Championships he placed 13th in a very comepetitive field posting a time of 15:42. With that time, he was the 3rd Maine boy to cross the finish line that day. He had equally if not better sucess on the track as well. As a sophomore he pulled off one of the greatest triples that Maine has ever seen winning the 1600, 800 and 3200 against the big boys. I am not quite sure of the times that day, but I have heard rumors that his 1600 time was around 4:18 and 3200 was around 9:37. As a senior, he was the runner up in the 1600 at the New England cahmpionships. Dewitt went on to Stanford University where he continued to have great success.
