1. John Hassett George Stevens Academy

SB: 17:24.16 Place at States: 5th Class C
Hassett shined in his first season on the trails as he continued to improve throughout even during the post season. He placed fifth at the Class C state championships running a time of 17:41.61. His time was the fastest of all freshmen regardless of Class. At the Eastern C Regional, he placed second to Matt Toussaint of Fort Kent running a personal best time of 17:24.16. At the Festival of Champions, Hassett placed 6th in the freshmen race running a time of 17:40.72. With another year of training under his belt, look for Hassett to make the next step in progressing towards in individual state championship next year.

SB: 16:43
Notable Performances: 32nd at Class A State Championship 18:01.22, 20th at Western A Regionals 17:47.97, 2nd in Freshmen race at FOC (63rd Overall) 17:22.73

3. Owen Concaugh Messalonskee
SB: 17:08.76
Notable Performances: 38th at Class A State Championship 18:09.11, 20th at Eastern A Regionals 17:22.98, 1st in Freshmen Race at FOC (49th overall) 17:09.76

4. Tucker Pierce Merriconeag
SB: 17:14.60
Notable Performances: 12th at Class C State Championships 18:24.28, 4th at Western C Regionals 17:44.71, 4th at Freeport (WMC Reg Season Meet) 17:14.60

5. Jeremy Bennett Windham
SB: 17:08
Notable Performances: 47th at Class A Championships 18:19.14, 29th at Western A Regionals 18:02.02, 5th in Freshmen Race at FOC (83rd overall) 17:36.72

  1. All the kudos to John Hassett for a great state meet performance. Those ranked 2, 3, and 4 also make a great case for the #1 spot. Do performances other than states also count in your ranking?

  2. They do, although I put a heavy emphasis on the state meet. The FOC freshmen race this year had a lot of depth. It was very hard to choose between these runners. At the end of the day, I thought Hassett's body of work over the course of the season was slightly better than the rest.
