10. Brother Brother Season 3
This episode cracks the top ten list because we finally get
to see the serious side of Eric. After receiving rejection letters from
multiple colleges’ Eric’s dreams are crushed. It also doesn’t help that he is
at odds with Cory in this episode. Cory feels left out because everybody
around him is leaving for the summer while he is stuck at home. The
tear-jerking speech Cory gives at Chubby’s was the deciding factor in putting
this in the top ten.
9. Dangerous Secret Season 4
None of the main characters were involved in any emotional stress
in this episode, but it still deserves to crack the top ten. We got to see
Shawn at his best as he tried to save Claire from her abusive father. Shawn may
have been wrong in letting Claire stay at Cory’s house, but in the end it
finally worked out.
8. The War Season 7
A prank war between Cory, Shawn, and Rachel goes too far
which leads to everybody being at odds with each other. They end up showing
what their lives would be like five years into the future if they had still
been enemies. While Eric is hilarious playing his part as Plays With Squirrels,
there is still some animosity between the gang, and they realize that can’t
happen.
7. A Long Walk to Pittsburgh Part 1
After seeing Shawn kiss Topanga in Chubby’s, Eric makes it
his mission to get to the bottom of it. We find out that Topanga is moving to
Pittsburgh with her parents which crushed Cory. Even when Shawn tried to
console Cory saying the she would come back, we all knew that she wasn’t and
it was incredibly tough to watch.
6. Brotherly Shove Season 7
Seeing two brothers’ fight is never fun to watch. Especially
when it’s Cory and Eric. In this episode it’s finally revealed how Cory and
Eric were never that close growing up. Yes, Eric may have been a little
dramatic about not being invited to clean the garage, but he was right. Cory
should have realized that his brother should have been involved in cleaning up
their childhood memories.
5. If You Can't be With the One You Love Season 5
We see a much darker side of Cory as he reverts to drinking to try and get over Topanga. While it was funny to see Cory interact with other girls, I think we all knew what was coming. It didn't help either that Shawn didn't stop Cory from drinking. They end up getting caught by the police and Alan seperates the two for a few weeks. Shawn clearly didn't get Alan's message as we see him show up drunk to school and nearly hurt Angela. He finally copes with his drinking problems and makes up with Mr. Feeny.
4. Cult Fiction Season 4
Just the fact that this was Jonathan Turner’s final episode
was enough to put this on the list. I have said this multiple times, but
Jonathan Turner was arguably the most important character in Boy Meets World. He
was so different than any teacher Cory, Topanga, and Shawn had, and he also
developed one of the greatest relationships in sitcom history with Shawn. Shawn’s
unwillingness to connect with the Matthews’ and Jonathan in his time of doubt was a serious
mistake, and it was almost very costly. He was trapped in Mr. Mack’s spell
until he saw Mr. Turner in the hospital. I can’t help but shed a tear when
Shawn talks about his emptiness in the emergency room.
3. We’ll Have a Good Time Then Season 6
It’s always hard to lose a loved one even if it was a
terrible father in Chet Hunter. I don’t think anybody really liked him, but to
see Shawn go through so much pain was hard to watch. Shawn knew something was
fishy right from the get-go when Chet arrived on campus. He didn’t like how
Jack paid for the dinner when Chet had promised he would. To see Shawn pour out
his frustrations to his father in the emergency room was enough to put me over
the edge, and when the doctor told him he was gone, I totally lost it.
2. Resurrection Season 6
If it wasn’t for the series finale, this episode would be
number one. There are so many different factors going on in this episode. Eric
becomes attached to Tommy, a young boy who Eric befriended over the holidays.
He becomes so close that he considers adopting him until he realizes that Tommy
would be better off going to California. Meanwhile, at the hospital, Amy gives
birth to her third son, but there are some complications with the baby and he
is put on life support. At the end, Shawn shows up at the hospital from his
road trip and the baby survives. Amy ends up naming the baby Joshua Gabriel
Matthews.
1. Brave New World Part 2 Season 7
Let’s be real. The finale of Boy Meets World is one of the
greatest tear-jerkers of all time. The final scene in Feeny’s room may go down
as one of the most important scenes in sitcom history. Shawn pouring out his
feelings to Feeny is probably the most emotional moment of the series, and Mr.
Feeny’s last line “I love you, I love you all…class dismissed” really put it
over the edge. I can't help but cry everytime I watch it.
