Josh Horne and Aaron Willingham Mt. Blue

The transfer of Aaron Willingham to Mt.Blue created one of the most feared duos in the state regardless of class this year. It all started at the Laliberte Invitational where Horne and Willingham placed first and second respectively. From there, both runners took off and became two of the states best runners. At the Festival of Champions, both Willingham and Horne clocked under 16 minutes (Willingham 15:42 and Horne 15:54) as they placed second and third respectively. At a meet as big as FOC, it's very impressive to see two guys from the same team place that high. Unfortunately, as the post season came Willingham was hampered by injuries which influenced his performance. With Horne graduating next spring, Willingham will get his chance to be the star as he hopes to win the state title next fall.

The Henry Rowengartner Award

The Henry Rowngartner Award is given annually to the best freshmen boy in the state

Larry Fisher: Hey, kid! How'd you like to play for the Chicago Cubs?

Henry Rowengartner: Great! But I gotta ask my mom first.

Previous Winners:

2011: Spencer Brown Falmouth

2010: Dan Curts Ellsworth

And the winner is….

Jesse Southard Gorham

Jesse Southard had an excellent freshmen season for Gorham as he excelled as the top runner for them. The freshmen showed he was capable of racing with the top guys in Class A as he placed 12th at the Western Maine Regionals running a time of 18:12.77. He had an excellent race at the state meet as he placed 19th running a time of 17:22.24. He was the first freshmen to cross the finish line. Look for Southard to contend with the top runners in the SMAA next fall, and perhaps make a run at the title in Class A.
