Week 1 Power Rankings: Girls Individuals


1.       Bethanie Brown Waterville
 

Place at States: 2nd Class B 19:29.7

Brown put on a performance for the ages last week as we saw her cover the three mile course at Bangor in 17:41. Her time would have placed her sixth in the boys race. Expect her to dominate the competition in Maine this year and perhaps make a run at a Footlocker All American.

 

2.       Erzsebet Nagy Lawrence
 

Place at States: 2nd Class A 18:59.8

Besides Abbey Leonardi, Nagy was the most dominant runner in Class A this past year as we saw her post times of 2:13.5/4:57.7/10:55.1. She is the overwhelming favorite to take the Class A title this year.

 

3.       Brittany Bowman Camden Hills


Place at States: 1st Class B 19:12

The defending champ in Class B can’t be counted out as Bowman has had a fantastic year of running. On the track we saw her post times of 5:24/11:16. She cruised to her first win of the season at Oceanside running a time of 19:38.

 

4.       Kirstin Sandrueter Greely

Place at States: DNC

Sandrueter has been the most dominant runner in the WMC this year as we saw her run under 11 minutes in the 2 mile and come close to breaking the 5 minute barrier in the mile. Expect her to cruise through the WMC this fall and challenge Brown and Bowman for top gun in Class B.

 

5.       Charlotte Pierce Thornton Academy

Place at States: 11th Class A 20:46

Pierce put on a dominating performance at the SMAA relays as she cruised to a time of 9:38 which was twenty seconds ahead of the second place finisher. She looks poised to make a run at a top three finish in Class A this year.

 

6.       Shannon Conley Cheverus

Place at States: 6th Class A 19:59.55

Conley is already off to a great start this fall as she placed third at the SMAA relays running a time of 10:02. Look for her to contend for a top five finish in Class A this fall.

 

7.       Willow Parker Camden Hills

Place at States: 5th Class B 20:18.45

The sophomore from Camden should emerge as one of the top runners in the state this year as we saw her run some fast times on the track this spring (5:32/11:41). Expect Parker to contend for a top five finish in Class B this year.

 

8.       Aleta Looker Ellsworth

Place at States: 4th Class B 20:08.40

Looker is already off to a great start this year as she took home the win at the Ellsworth Invitational running a time of 19:29.39. Looker will be one of the numerous favorites in Eastern Maine this year.

 

9.       Kiera Murray Cheverus

Place at States: 5th Class A 19:56.02

Murray is already off to a good start this year as we saw her place fourth at the SMAA Relays running a time of 10:11. Expect Murray to contend for a top five finish in Class A this year.

 

10.   Carsyn Koch Washburn

Place at States: 1st Class C 20:17.74

The Class C defending champion has already notched two wins under her belt. She looks like the overwhelming favorite to defend her Class C title this year.

Performer of the Week: Bethanie Brown of Waterville and Charlotte Pierce of Thornton Academy earn co-performers of the week. Brown's time of 17:41 at Bangor would have placed her sixth in the boys race. Pierce dominated the field at the SMAA's running a time of 9:38.
